Supporting Zoroastrians Globally Since 1980

The World Zoroastrian Organisation is an international organisation created to support Zoroastrians globally with aid, advocacy, education, and community. All Zoroastrians are welcome to join WZO.

Our Mission

To support Zoroastrians worldwide, irrespective of where they live, by promoting the religion, preserving its traditions, and assisting the community through education, welfare, and youth development programmes.

Our Vision

A thriving global Zoroastrian community, connected across continents, where every individual has access to the resources and support they need to celebrate and sustain their heritage.

Our Journey

Key Milestones

1980

WZO founded in London by Shahpur Captain and Dr Farhang Mehr to unite the global Zoroastrian diaspora and support displaced Zoroastrians wishing to resettle in the West.

1986

Following the Bhaya report, WZO started fund-raising activities to assist vulnerable Zoroastrians in India.

1993

Membership criteria updated to allow non-Zoroastrian spouses married to Zoroastrians to become full members.

2002

WZO Trust Funds established to provide regular monthly payments and micro-credit loans to Zoroastrians in Gujarat.

2010

WZO reaches global membership milestone with representation across 30+ countries.

2012

WZO revised its constitution to be more inclusive and created

a 'Friends of WZO' membership category for those people who were non-

Zoroastrians but were interested in Zoroastrianism and WZO.

2018

Heritage preservation programme begins, supporting restoration of historic fire temples.

2025

WZO launches the Dadabhai Naoroji Education Scholarship and continues expanding welfare programmes.

Our Mission in Action

Zoroastrian Community

WZO is committed to working for all Zoroastrians, irrespective of their ethnicity and location. We operate a policy of inclusiveness and respect for each other. Arranging social events is a key way of bringing the community together.

Charitable Activities

Numerous Zoroastrian and non-Zoroastrian charitable organisations channel their charitable activities through WZO. We are grateful to the Firuz Madon Foundation, Zoroastrian Charitable Funds of Hong Kong, Canton and Macao, the Sir Ratan Tata Fund, and the Erach and Roshan Sadri Foundation.

Relief of Poverty

WZO is committed to working for all Zoroastrians, irrespective of their ethnicity and location. We operate a policy of inclusiveness and respect for each other. Arranging social events is a key way of bringing the community together.

Medical Aid

WZO provides medical grants to offset some of the high costs of urgent and essential treatment for Zoroastrians worldwide.

Education

WZO invests in education as a key element in improving living standards. Through its own educational funds and in conjunction with other charitable organisations, WZO provides grants and interest-free loans at all levels.

Global Reach

WZO welcomes applications for funds from around the world. Applications are assessed on need and the ability of the applicant to cover the cost. Interest-free educational loans and medical grants are offered to those seeking assistance anywhere.

WZO operates an inclusive policy for all Zoroastrians irrespective of their ethnicity and location. Since 1993, non-Zoroastrian spouses are welcome as full members.

Financial Transparency

WZO publishes annual accounts and reports, available at our AGM and on request. We are registered as a UK charity and comply with Charity Commission requirements.
